Best of Both Worlds
I consider myself fortunate to be part of the generation that bridged traditional media with the digital age, providing me with a well-rounded understanding of most tools found in marketing and promotions today.
This experience started during college, where I found employment at a book publisher and later a newspaper, all while developing design skills that were incorporating everything from India ink, halftone sheets and border tape, to darkroom photography. This was in addition to my formal education in radio & television production.
My first employers after school were marketing offices, including both the Star Plaza Theatre in Merrillville and the Empress Casino in Hammond. It was at a time when desktop publishing was in its infancy, and very few people had ever heard of Photoshop. Responsibilities centered on weekly marketing campaigns that involved all four of the Chicagoland newspapers, as well as commercial printers, mail houses, and billboard companies.
Today, everything has come full-circle with a return to my radio/TV roots and the advent of digital technology. Gone are the needs for darkrooms, control rooms and the lugging of machines that record to tape, with the convenience instead on a desktop — if not in your pocket. Video production, websites and social media are now staples of my skill set, along with all my traditional abilities.
It is truly an exciting time for creative people, and I am happy to be a part of it.
